I was adopted shortly after birth. For most of my life, I carried questions about where I came from. On November 19, 2018, I took a DNA test. I hoped for answers. I could not have imagined the people it would lead me to.
A Question That Stayed With Me
Growing up in the Bahamas, I had a life and a family of my own. I was grateful for them. Still, there were questions I could not answer: Who did I look like? Where did I come from? Was there a family somewhere who never knew about me? Those questions stayed with me long after I became an adult and a father.

That was the day I took the DNA test. What began as a search for information became something much more personal. The results helped reveal a biological father who had never known I existed and a family I had never known was out there.
The Room in Canada
In October 2019, I walked into a room in Canada and met my biological siblings. People who had been strangers only a short time before were part of my family. I had spent decades wondering where I came from. Standing with them did not answer every question, but it gave me a connection I had never expected to find.
Finding Family Is a Beginning
Discovery does not give back the years that were missed. It brings joy, complicated feelings, new relationships, and sometimes more questions. I am grateful for the chance to know my siblings and to keep learning what this connection means. This is one chapter of a much larger story, and some parts of it remain private for now.
